Now I’m in the marketing mode for Female Adventurers: the women who helped colonize Massachusetts and Connecticut. I have one talk/signing, two television interviews and two radio interviews scheduled so promotion is going as it should. Marketing is something, believe it or not, that I enjoy. During my time as a marketing consultant, I considered it a challenge to see how many different ways I could market a piece. Everybody has their favorite way to receive communi-cations. One of the biggest hurdles to jump when promoting anything is that people interpret words differently, and will often jump to conclusions from their interpretation. Consequently, it is especially important that each | word tells the story you are promoting as clearly as possible. When I was the editor/publisher of the women’s magazine “Women Unlimited,” I was astounded to find out that some people construed “Unlimited” to mean “united,” which suggested a completely different connotation. The other difficulty is that research over the years has proven that people need to receive facts in various formats at least seven times before they commit the information to memory. Where does one draw the line between having people remember your story and annoying them by being too repetitious. Please leave a comment telling me which medium you prefer to receive information. |
