So you wrote a book. Now what? Authors have to wear many hats. After you’ve given yourself a sore arm from patting yourself on the back for a job well done reaching the end of a long-time goal to finish writing your book, your calendar should fill up with getting it edited, getting it published and then – and then what? Do you sit back on your heels and see what the world is going to do with this gift you have given it? Not if you want to sell more than two copies. Now it’s time to jump into the marketplace and use your creativity to march that book right into the hands of all those readers out there who are just waiting to hear about your book. | Don’t be fooled, it will be hard work but with creative ideas you can find ways to also make it fun -- both for you and the readers you are trying to reach. Start by taking a moment to look at your specific audience from their point of view and see how you can best reach them with a message about your book that will speak directly to them. Since that’s where I am – in the marketing maze – that’s what I’ll be writing about over the next few months. I hope you’ll add your comments and give me some clues on how I can get you excited about my book. I need to hear from readers as well as authors. |

Some how I've always been drawn to marketing. In every organization in which I've become active over the year, I did or helped do the publicity. I have also worked as a Marketing Consultant.
Today it is so much easier -- Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ -- to spread the word. It is still important to remember that the quality of the message you are putting out is accurate and important. In today's too-much-informatio-climate, it is essential that your words hit a chord with the reader. They don't have time to waste reading what they already know. As I go deeper and deeper into my marketing plan, I'm reminded that as always plans have to be revised, adjusted and added to as new ideas present themselves. For instance, I had a day planned to visit bookstores on the Cape but when the opportunity came to participate in the Boston Book Festival, I happily revised my schedule. I find that every time I talk to people about "Female Adventurers" someone will suggest a person to contact or a venue for a book talk. These added to social media are what marketing is about. Wonderful news this morning - Female Adventurers has received a wonderful review. Here is the link: http://dougholder.blogspot.com/2013/10/female-adventurers-women-who-helped.html
